A prophetic warning from fiction
A preface to my recently published book, "The Best View Money Can Buy."
Dear reader,
This note is meant to provide some context for my recent book, The Best View Money Can Buy. This is a collection of fiction short stories that are about a number of things, including humanity, science, technology, climate change, artificial intelligence, immortality, the future, and God. I wrote the majority of these stories before Jesus saved me and before I became an Orthodox Christian. As I wrote these, I was not intending for them to have any religious import. But nevertheless, in hindsight, they do. This book’s relevance to readers of God and The World to Come is that I believe it is a prophetical warning for all about the future.
This is not a book written for the believers, but, as I said, it turns out to be very much for us. That said, if you are religious and planning to read this, I will warn you that it is dark. I did not write it for children or those avoiding adult themes. I would describe it as mature but not grotesque.
The Best View Money Can Buy is the name of both the collection as well as one of the stories in the book, a novelette. The basis of the short story is a dream I had in early 2019. I wrote the story by the end of the year and then let it sit for four years before publishing it. For years, I did not know what to do with it, but others encouraged me to publish it for its value to others. Initially, I thought it was just a story, but now, from the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, I believe it is a warning about the future. The reason I’ve published the book now is primarily because of this short story. I cannot let it sit any longer. Each day that goes by, I see its relevance increase both for the present moment as well as a fast-approaching future world. If you read only one of these stories, this is the one I recommend you begin with.
That said, there are other stories in the collection that convey different but also important warnings about now and the future, dealing with different aspects of how technology affects human beings. Meanwhile, one of the stories doesn’t deal with technology at all. However, each of these stories has an underlying spiritual meaning.
This book is for the faithful as well as those who don’t believe in God.
For those who do not believe — whether agnostic or atheist — I encourage you to read it because I suspect this book will raise questions in your mind that you have not thought about and are unlikely to hear others discuss. Whether you’re a believer or not, the staggering possibility of technological advancement will pose practical ethical and moral questions, as well as require choices, that will very soon affect your life.
If you are a follower of Jesus, I think it’s important to notice the hour. The world around us is being transformed by technological breakthroughs, which I think will continue to unfold before our eyes at both an increasingly dazzling pace and increasing magnitude of miraculous stature.
For followers of God, I believe The Best View Money Can Buy contains a prophetic warning about deception, false gods, technology, artificial intelligence, transhumanism, the anti-Christ, and spiritual discernment. I do not claim to know these things by myself but humbly by the gift of the Holy Spirit of God, whom I fear and place all of my faith in.
Indeed for believers, I imagine this book will connect reality to Biblical prophecy. As a follower of Jesus, are you ready for what is coming in the future? We each will have to make choices, and we are called to do so based on our faith in God, not for the pleasures of this temporary and dying age. But have you considered what this may look like? Knowing what is coming is helpful for developing strength. I warn you now: all must begin doing so because of the confusing age, and its deceptions and temptations, which is coming upon us.
I suspect that we will not be able to stay in the present moment of current technological use and dependence. People will have to choose whether they want to go “backward” or “forward.” This book will make you think about not only what’s going on now, but what’s coming, and I hope will serve as a warning about what our future might look like before the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
If you are a Christian, I ask in love of God that you please pray to our Lord and ask Him whether this may be helpful to you or not and for discernment as you read.
All glory to God.
