One of my first profound encounters with God as an adult was in a sleep-like state. I was totally surprised and overwhelmed by the experience. Realizing this was God was the most enlightened moment of my life thus far. 

But looking back on my life, I see now that even when I was not in my waking life thinking of God, in my dreams I was praying and He was answering me. 

Sometimes when we do not recognize the voice of God or His works in our waking lives, He reaches us in our sleep.

For those who pray and feel that God does not speak to you or answer you, do not let your waking reality confuse you; He is always with you.
