What does the Bible say about Yeshua being the Son of God?
Judaism rejects Yeshua (Jesus) as both the messiah and Son of God. Islam accepts Yeshua as the messiah but rejects Him as the Son of God. Messianic Judaism and Christianity accept Yeshua as both the promised messiah of the Jewish people, as well as the Gentiles, and the Son of God.
The scriptural basis for this is clear, as recorded in the New Testament, including the gospels, written by the disciples of Yeshua, who knew, walked, and lived with Him.
God said that Yeshua is His Son, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew:
Matthew 3:16-17:
16 And having been baptized, Yeshua immediately went up from the water; and lo, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him. 17 And lo, a voice from the heavens, saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
And the disciple Peter, a disciple of Yeshua, said it as well:
2 Peter 1:16-18:
16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, but had been made eye-witnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received from God the Father honor and glory, a voice having been borne to him by the most excellent glory, such as this: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18 And this voice brought from heaven we heard, being with him in the holy mount;
Yeshua said that He is the Son of God:
Mark 14:60-62:
60 And the chief priest arose in the midst and asked Yeshua, saying: Answerest thou nothing? What do these testify against thee? 61 But he was silent and answered nothing. Again the chief priest asked him and said to him: Art thou the Messiah (Christ in Greek), the Son of the Blessed? 62 And Yeshua said: I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.
John 10:14-30:
14 I am the good shepherd, and know mine, and mine know me, 15 as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also must I bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold, one shepherd. 17 For this reason my Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of myself. Authority have I to lay it down, and authority have I to take it again: this commandment I received from my Father... 30 I and the Father are one.
John 11:2-44:
2 And it was Mary that anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. 3 The sisters therefore sent to him, saying: Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. 4 But Yeshua hearing it, said: This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it… 25 Yeshua said to her: I am the resurrection and the life; he that believes on me, though he were dead, he shall live, 26 and whoever lives and believes on me shall never die: believest thou this? 27 She says to him: Yes, Lord: I have believed that thou art the Messiah (Christ), the Son of God, he that comes into the world... 43 And having said these things, He (Yeshua) cried with a loud voice: Lazarus, come forth. 44 And He that had been dead came forth, bound hands and feet with swathing bands; and his face was bound around with a handkerchief. Yeshua says to them: Loose him, and let him go.
It was prophesied that the Son of God would come, both in the Tanakh and in the New Testament. Here I will focus on the New Testament, and discuss the Tanakh in a dedicated article.
Luke 1:35:
35 And the angel answered and said to her (Mary): The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: wherefore also the holy one that is born shall be called the Son of God.
The disciples Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John all testified that Yeshua is the Son of God:
John 1:32-34:
32 And John testified, saying: I saw the Spirit descending, like a dove, from heaven, and it abode upon him. 33 And I knew him not, but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said to me: On whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, this is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit. 34 And I have seen, and I have testified that this is the Son of God.
Matthew 14:33:
33 And those in the ship worshipped him, saying: Truly thou art the Son of God.
Matthew 16:15-16:
15 He says to them: But who say you that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answering said: Thou art the Messiah (Christ), the Son of the living God.
John 1:48-50:
48 Yesua saw Nathaniel coming to him, and said concerning him: Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile. 49 Nathaniel said to him: Whence knowest thou me? Yeshua answered and said to him: Before Philip called thee, whilst thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. 50 Nathaniel answered him: Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art King of Israel.
And the Jewish Rabbi and Pharisee Saul, who later became known as Paul the Apostle, who was persecuting Christians after the crucifixion of Yeshua, testified, after encountering the resurrected Yeshua and losing his sight, that He is the Son of God:
Acts 9:17-20:
17 And Ananias went, and entered into the house, and having laid his hands on him, said: Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to thee on the way by which thou earnest, has sent me, that thou mayest receive sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as if scales; and he received sight, and arose and was baptized; 19 and having taken food, he was strengthened. And he was with the disciples in Damascus some days; 20 and immediately in the synagogues he preached Yeshua, that this is the Son of God.
Even the demons that Yeshua cast out of those who were suffering because of sin testified that Yeshua is the Son of God:
Luke 4:41:
41 And demons also went forth from many, crying out and saying: Thou art the Son of God. And rebuking them, He permitted them not to speak, for they knew that he was the Messiah (Christ).
Mark 3:10-11:
10 For He (Yeshua) cured many, so that they fell upon him, that they might touch him, as many as had scourges. 11 And the unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him and cried out, saying: Thou art the Son of God.
